Photos shows the exterior of the former cable tram engine house on the corner of Bridge Road and Hoddle St Richmond. It operated from 1885 to 1927. At the time the building was occupied by East Melbourne Forklift sales. The building was demolished during the early 1990s to remodel the intersection. Photo early 1960s based on the motor vehicles, photographer unknown. Conductor walking to bus with passengers. The photograph shows two cable car sets, both with an additional trailer passing in Flinders St with the Customs House in the background. Trailer cars 11 - lettered Richmond and short or 6 window trailer, No. 38. The second car was known as a "Tail Car" and was operated between Spencer St and Flinders St stations before constructing the viaduct that linked both stations. The photograph shows a cable tram set with trailer 44 at the Bridge Road Richmond terminus. The S McIntosh's Bridge Hotel is in the background, along with four shops including the Oriental Cafe for Tea and Grills. It would appear that the gripman is ready to leave though a male passenger seems to be hurrying forward to catch the tram. The typed caption records that the dummy is No. 12, the photograph is dated Jan. 1924 and notes the slotted depot lead out track in the foreground.
