Biography of the Burns family including Clarence Henry Burns, who with his wife Rose lived in Warrandyte Road. He was a great sportsman, part-time fireman, worked for the Ringwood Council among other things winding the clock on the clocktower. Kellaway at the ministry for planning and environment on 16/06/1988 and 10/08/1988. The latter includes research material regarding the ‘ALNWICK’ house including a brief description of the history of Sir James Patterson, photos of the house and a newspaper extract regarding its sale. The other letters were sent to the secretary of Caulfield Historical Society from the Historic Buildings Council inviting them to attend a hearing about ‘Alnwick’s’ classification. Illustrated book with carboard cover. Front cover has a central colour illustration of a church, a bell and a fir tree bough. 28 pp. Gilt edges to pages.The story involves Bessie, a young woman whose lover, Basil Underwood, has been arrested, thrown in prison by the Puritans and sentenced to die that night when the curfew bell rings. Knowing that Oliver Cromwell will be late in arriving, the young woman begs the old sexton to prevent the ringing of the curfew bell. When he refuses, she climbs to the top of the bell tower and heroically risks her life by manually stopping the bell from ringing.
