The foreword noted "The twentieth century revival of lithography had its source in Paris, and in this exhibition, the second held in Melbourne, the catalogue includes some beautiful prints by various younger French artists as well as those by the "old masters" of contemporary lithography, Braque Picasso,, Chagall and Dufy. ... These prints form an interesting section of the regular art auctions in Paris and London, and they are eagerly sought by buyers who want an original work of art by artists whose paintings are far beyond their purses. In the years of Allan Doney’s photography, landmark buildings succumbed to fire, neglect and redevelopment. He photographed the grey sand hills from Bendigo’s mining past, the streetscapes, poppet heads, miners’ cottages, gracious homes with ornate verandahs, trams and much more. Above all, his photographs show how much of the city has survived from the 19th century – and how much has not. Through two decades of great change, Allan Doney was there to capture ways people interacted with it. Although he travelled to many other places in Northern Victoria and beyond in search of subjects for his art, he seemed to always return to Bendigo for inspiration.

Marlo is a small town near the mouth of the Snowy River. This 1913 photograph shows several boats, sailing boats and steamers, at the Marlo jetty. Until 1915, Marlo acted as a small port for goods coming in to the mouth of the Snowy River from coastal steamers and sailing ships. Here, goods and people were transhipped to small vessels to be transported up the Snowy River to Orbost. With the coming of the railway to Orbost in 1916, this transport route by ocean and river was made obsolete. This photo is significant because it shows the functioning of the port of Marlo near the mouth of the Snowy River in 1913. A b/w photo of a number of boats tied up to a wharf/jetty. Two men standing on the jetty. There are tall masts on several of the boats and also a funnel. The boat the foreground is a small launch. Underneath the photo, written in black ink: Marlo 1913: Snowy on left, Stormbird on right.marlo, sailing boats, transport

The ship Speke, which was wrecked in 1906 near Kitty Miller Bay, was named after the town Speke in Liverpool, where Speke Hall is located. Source http://www.nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/place/speke-hall Speke Hall This half-timbered Tudor courtyard house acquired its present shape during the 16th century under the ownership of Sir William Norris and his grandson, also Sir William. It was completed, except for some minor additions, for Edward Norris by 1606. The predominant architectural message of Speke is the decorative potential of wood. The exterior, with its high proportion of timber to infill, is a riot of geometrical patterning, while many of the Tudor interiors are filled with carved and embellished panelling – including a genealogical overmantel from c.1560 – some probably imported from the Low Countries, where the Norrises had trading connections. After a period of neglect, Speke was restored and entirely refurnished in the mid-19th century by the Watt family. 2 x Large photos of Speke Hall - 1 Black & White, 1 coloured.Speke Hall, Gardens and Estatethe speke, sailing boats, shipwrecks, photographs, speke hall
