Made as a Souvenir Sales item for the Seattle Waterfront tramway. Purchased at the time of the visit of a former MMTB tram workshops foreman. Depicts W2 512. The Waterfront tramway opened in 1982 using three ex Melbourne trams. Newspaper clipping untitled: The Sun, Tuesday, Jan 24, 1978 Tram # 230 in photo, displaying route 48, "East Melbourne, Hoddle St" Trams # 401 and 484 sold to Seattle Seattle councillor, George Benson and Paul Class have convinced Seattle to buy two 50-year-old trams (401 and 484) to be used as tourist trams along heritage waterfront. Benson is chairman of his city’s traffic committee and Class is head of company that will establish the tram service. Trams cost $5000 each and cost another $40000 to deliver. Alice Mary Salter and William Robert Salter living together; presumed to be sister and brother. William Robert Salter was killed in a MVA in Bendigo in 1937 aged 26. Painting - 'SS Roma', Dacre Smyth, Roma
SS Roma was laid down in 1942 at the Seattle-Tacoma SB Corporation plant and was launched as “Glacier” on September 7, 1942. Like quite a few ships, it was during her building as a C3 cargo ships that she was transferred under the “Lend Lease Agreement” to the Royal Navy and redesigned and built as the escort aircraft carrier HMS Atheling. After the war she was purchased by the Lauro Lines and rebuilt as the modern passenger liner Roma. She departed on her maiden voyage from Genoa bound for Australia in August 1951 arriving in Fremantle on October 1, continuing to Melbourne and arriving in Sydney on the 17th.
