The Returned Serviceman's Gala Day was held on the Lara main oval on Saturday 8th November 1919. Each returned serviceman was presented with a medallion with their name on it. Copies of the badge are held at the Lara RSL Sub Branch. Lt General Smith is presenting a badge to a serviceman in one photo. They serve as both historical records and symbols of community remembrance. These honor board were often made from deeply carved wood and could be found in places of work, churches, City & Shire Halls, schools etc. H.V. McKays Sunshine Harvester Works, located in Sunshine Victoria, was a large company that was proud of their servicemen who served in the military forces during World War I.
