This glass display case was one to two donated to the Sunshine and Historical Society by the City of Sunshine as part of celebrations of the opening of The Hunt Club Community Arts Centre. The glass display case came from the former Shire of Braybrook Offices. The Society had the glass cases restored. This photograph was taken when the glass case was being used for the Albion Explosive Factory 40 Years Exhibition. This is a peephole from a solitary confinement cell cell at Port Arthur. There were 12 cells, measuring 3m x 1.5m, used for solitary confinement. Convicts there would sleep on a narrow wooden shelf, the only furnishing in the cell, and were watched through a peephole in the cell door.A rectangular iron peephole from a prison door. it has a bolted metal flap that can be pushed aside to allow an outside person a view of the inside of the cell.peephole port- arthur convict

On one arm of y connector is a short length of orange rubber tubbing, to the other end of this tubing is another larger y connection, with another short length of orange rubber tubing, with a metal clamp attached to bottom. The test-tube is attached to a varnished wooden board by two metal brackets. At the base of the test tube is a small wooden shelf for protection. On this backboard is a marked gradient of 60 cms. This Sister is working at the Control Centre at RDNS Headquarters, 452 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne where she is receiving a phone call which she will transfer to the appropriate staff member in Headquarters, or if appropriate pass the message onto an RDNS Centre to take action. Central Control was based in the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), Headquarters and the Sister working there took and directed all incoming telephone calls to persons in Headquarters or to the appropriate RDNS Centre. Each Centre contacted the Control Sister each morning for any messages received over night. She remained in contact with each RDNS Centre during the day, and in contact with Evening staff after each Centre was closed at 6 p.m. Evening staff contacted Central Control after completing their evening visits, and book work, so the Sister in Central Control knew they were safe and had completed their shift before leaving the RDNS premises. Of a weekend, when reduced staff numbers were working, the same procedure was carried out by the Sister working in each Center's office. This pew is one of a set of fifteen church pews originally used in St. Nicholas Seamen’s Church, 139 Nelson Place, Williamstown, Victoria, during religious services there. The Church was operated by the Mission to Seamen organisation. The pews were donated to the St Nicholas Seamen’s Church by the Williamstown Lightkeepers’ Auxiliary, founded by Ethel Margaret Musther, M.B.E. * for more detailed history please see our Registration Number 611, Set of Pews The set of pews is significant historically for its origin in the St Nicholas Mission to Seamen's Church in Williamstown, established in 1857 to cater for the physical, social, and spiritual needs of seafarers. It originated in Bristol, England when a Seamen's Mission was formed in 1837. The set of pews id historically significant for their connection to the Ladies Lightkeepers’ Auxiliary, an organisation of women, formed to support seafarers. The connection of these pews to the Mission to Seamen and to the Ladies Lightkeepers’ Auxiliary highlights the strong community awareness of the life of people at sea, their dangers and hardships, and their need for physical, financial, spiritual and moral support. Church pew, one of a set of fifteen varnished wooden church pews. The pews have a shelf fitted at the behind the backrest. Ten pews also have hinged kneeling stands attached to them underneath the seats.
