The Donation Book relates to the Ballarat School of Mines Museum which opened in 1872. Very few of these items are still held by Federation University. The Museum was emptied in the 1960s with items being distrubuted to the Ballarat Historical Society, returned to original lenders (ie Pern Collection), of disposed of. This set of 43 photographs was taken in August 1990 during the Australian Army Chief of the General Staff (CGS) and Regimental Sergeant-Major of the Australian Army (RSM-A) visit to the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. Lieutenant General Henry John Coates AC MBE was a senior officer in the Australian Army who served as Chief of the General Staff from 1990 to 1992. RSM-A WO1 Kevin ‘Lofty’ Wendt OAM BEM was the 2nd RSM to be appointed to the position of RSM-A, the most senior Warrant Officer position in the Australian Army. His appointment was from 1987 to 1990. The name of the CGS’s aide de camp officer is unknown.
