After the successful Revitalization - Restoration of the SMIMM in Nov 2018 the interim Museum Subcommittee was disolved. In 2019 the process of forming a new Sub Committee began. The first meeting was held on 1.7.2019. 2019 had been a very successful year and 2020 was hopefully better. In early 2020 Covid struck and the last meeting was held on 17.3.2020 and the Museum closed not long after. The contents of this folder cover Agenda's, Minutes, Reports, Donations in $ terms, Terms of referance re Museum, Correspondance from BDRSL, Museum Business plan for 2020, details re Museum functions and certificates. There was no meetings until 3.3.2021 and due to Covid would only be open on a Saturday for for the time being pending Covid and finance. The first day open was Saturday 27.3.2021. ... SMIMM 2011 ...Albert VIctor Grinton (born Tragowel Vic, enlisted Melbourne) No 5024 enlisted in the 21st reinforcements 13th Batt AIF on 21.1.16 age 18 years. When he got to England he transferred to the 38th Batt to be with his brother Jack. Embarked for France 22,11,1916, WIA 28.5.1917 SW Face, rejoin unit 19.6.1917, WIA 12.10.1917, rejoin unit 10.5.1918, promoted CPL 3.9.1918, hospital 14.9.1918 Nasal Obstruction, rejoin unit 3.10.1918, promoted Sgt 7.10.1918. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for actions near Clery on 31.8.18. John William Grinton enlisted in C Coy 38th Batt AIF on 3.2.16 age 23 years. Both became Sergeants and both were WIA twice. They came home together on the same boat. Part of the Grinton collection which included hundreds of negatives and developed photos taken by Jack during the War. Refer 1280 for Jacks full service records also 1317P, 1319.3.A4 size B & W copy of the original photo. The frame is black. On the left is Albert Grinton "DCM" and on the right Jack Grinton. Part time 5 year CMF service then began on 5.8.1954 - 27.4.1959. CMF postings were 6th Inf Brigade Light Aid Detachment 5.8.1954 then 38th Infantry Bn from 1.7.1955 to discharge with the rank of Lance Cpl (temporary Sgt) He joined the Naval Cadets in Bendigo from 1960 - 1978. His rank on discharge was Lieutenant and was the XO. He was a Committee member Bendigo RSL sub branch from 1992 - 2000. He was an original Bendigo RSL (SMIMM) Museum guide from opening in 1998 - 2015..1) Black presentation case, padded inner lining of felt and linen with insets for the following. (a). Begins when he sailed from Melbourne on Nov 16th 1940 to July 10th 1942, he was KIA at El Alamein on 12.7.1942. (These are the only two left in digital form, others that were done on a Museum Computer or transferred to were lost on the Museum computers) 11. Museum Musters. There were a total of 84 "Musters" produced from 2003 to beginning 2020 just before Covid. Vol's No 39, 45 - 76 are the only remaining in digital format. The rest were lost on Computer. (Vol's 1 - 84 are in Hard Copy) 12. Born Bendigo, enlisted Bendigo WW1. A listing of approx 6,000 names. This information was supplied by Denis Connor, Paul Dalgleish and Staff of the National Archives Canberra to the Museum. (A printed copy is in the Museum Library) 13. Diary. Jack Grinton No 1043 C Coy 38th BN WW1. Transcribed from his note book. Begins on 1.3.1916 on enlistment to 16.11.1916 prior to movement to France. Also photographs, research notes, documents, list of items donated to the Museum, time lines. (Diary, a hard copy is in the Museum Library) (The above items were compiled by Peter Ball in his capacity as either Curator, Chairman Museum Sub Committee, Sub Committee member, Cataloguing Co Ordinator from 1998 to current. All were done on home computer, items listed as missing were at some point transferred to a Museum Computer and subsequently lost at a later date during Covid) 14. Video. Channel 9. The launch of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Digital Honour roll in 2017. The filming took place in the Vietnam Veterans shed at the Bendigo District RSL Havilah Road. The work relates to the 2,972 names on the Honour Roll of the building and the 499 identified who did not come back. The research and putting together was done by Bendigo RSL Historian Murray Poustie, interviews on the video are with Murray and Museum Volunteer Peter. Work on paper SMIMM VISITOR'S BOOKS 1997 - 2025 ...These Visitors books were for the Soldiers Memorial Institute Military Museum in Pall Mall Bendigo (Now the Bendigo Military Museum) The books cover the period Oct 1997 - April 2025 and are ongoing. The Museum opened on a trial basis in Oct 1997 and then officially in Feb 1998.The first two entries in the book 1 are undated, the 3rd is dated 20.10.1997. Image No 2 shows the first entries in October 1997. Image No 3 shows the signatures of Prime Minister John Howard, Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer and Jack Lockett on 21.7.1998 when Jack received the French legion of Honour.
