This work is the result of a series of interviews with committee members of 69 Smith Street Gallery, an artist-run gallery that operated in Collingwood between 1998 and 2016. These interviews taken between 2010 and 2011 feature artists who went on to form the creative group known as the 69 Collective.This work was part of The Line exhibition at Collingwood Gallery in 2018. The brief given to participating artists was to present works using the theme of the horizontal line. The artworks, in a range of mediums, were hung with a consistent line travelling through each piece around the perimeter of the gallery space. The photograph shows the demolition and removal of the cable tram track at the intersection of Smith Street and Queens Parade North Fitzroy. The workmen are excavating the former cable tram track. The inbound cable tram track remains in position. The 1955 Annual Report notes that work commenced following the completion of the Queen's visit in March 1954 and that all work was done by day labour. The track was opened to electric tram service late in June 1955. The second image is from a Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works plan (part) No. 1217 - Collingwood for the intersection, obtained for reference from the State Library of Victoria Collection of MMBW Plans. It shows the layout of the cables and the large sheave pit that the cable itself passed around. The trams were required to drop the cable from the grip prior to the entry to the curve and then coast around. This vintage 12 oz Nabisco Pty Ltd Wundawax Furniture Polish was used to shine wooden furniture.A flat round vintage Wundawax Furniture Polish tin with a removable lid and polish contents inside. The top of the yellow and black lid has red sun rays in the middle with 'WUNDAWAX POLISH' in black lettering outlined in yellow and red. There are directions included. Around the edge of the top lid is the manufacturer's details. On the base of the tin is printed in black bold lettering WUNDAWAX POLISH 'Net Weight 12 oz when packed'. The lid can be opened to show wax in the tin.The lid has red sun rays in the middle with 'Gives a Lasting Polish Will Not Mark' at the top in black letters. 'WUNDAWAX Floor Polish' is also on the top as well as 'Directions Apply Sparingly & Finish with a Soft Cloth'. Around the edge of the lid 'WUNDAWAX' is printed in yellow lettering as well as '' Around the edge of the lid inside black lines is printed ' Polishes Instantly. Easily applied.
