These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1991, were published as part of the newspaper’s ongoing column profiling local traders across the district. There photographs feature the Argyle First Florist Shop located at 11 Hampshire Road, Sunshine. A second shop is located at 137 South Road, Braybrook. Thomas Argyle, a nurseryman, and his wife Beth owned the Sunshine's popular Florist Shop Argyle First. Beth in the 1980's & 1990's held various executive committee positions in the Sunshine Beautification Group including President, Secretary and Patron. The Sunshine Advocate’s feature on local traders was a modest yet well‑liked column that played a meaningful role in strengthening community identity. Through these regular profiles, the newspaper promoted local businesses and helped shape Sunshine’s understanding of its developing commercial district.7366.01 - Argyle Florist 11 Devonshire Rd Sunshine 1991 Photographs (Advocate 61.2).JPG 7366.02 - Argyle Florist 11 Devonshire Rd Sunshine 1991 Photographs (Advocate 61.2).JPGargyle florist, devonshire road, sunshine, south road, braybrook

The stretch of Kororoit Creek between Deer Park and Sunshine South contains several pedestrian bridges. Many of these structures were rudimentary in design and, in numerous cases, poorly constructed. One of the more unusual examples is the bridge at Boorham Street, Sunshine South, which links across the Kororoit Creek to Pickersgill Avenue, Sunshine West. This bridge was originally built by the Watkins family many decades ago, using the chassis of two railway wagons. Its purpose was entirely practical: to move cattle across the creek. At the request of Council, the family later donated the structure, and it was subsequently decked to allow public use. However, the bridge remained inadequate, and in 1978 Council officers recommended that it be replaced as soon as possible. The Watkins family were early agricultural settlers along the Kororoit Creek corridor, contributing to the rural foundations of Sunshine South and Sunshine West before the rise of large‑scale industry. Their presence reflects the transitional period when the district shifted from creek‑based farming to rail‑linked manufacturing.boreham street, sunshine, pickersgill avenue, sunshine west
