The Steavenson Falls is named after the Victorian Assistant Commissioner of Roads and Bridges, John Steavenson, who arrived in Victoria in the early 1860s. At 84 metres high, Steavenson Falls is Victoria's tallest cascading waterfall. The falls are split into roughly five cascades, with the last of these plunging into a small, picturesque rock pool. These falls are located on the Marysville-Wood's Point Road. Cambarville is notable for its giant mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans) trees within the Cumberland Memorial Scenic Reserve, and relics from former sawmills and gold mining. The Big Culvert is located nearby on the Marysville-Woods Point Road, which was historically part of the Yarra Track. Cambarville was established as a timber mill town in the 1940s. Timber mill owners A Cameron and FJ Barton named Cambarville. They established the mill to salvage timber from trees destroyed in the 1939 bushfires. Cambarville was impacted by the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and any remaining structures were destroyed. The two bridges on the railway viaduct, which crosses the Snowy River floodplain at Orbost, were built from local Southern Mahogany. The bridge on the Bairnsdale end (770m) is now the longest in Victoria. Despite various attempts to extend the line, the station stayed on the western side of the Snowy River. (info. Note the cab stand building on Lydiard St South. Many motor cars in the photo. ESCo trams - one crossing Lydiard St has a "Vote No" sign on it. The one in Lydiard Street has a "Pay as you leave" sign and a "Sunshine Biscuits Advertisements". The closest tram is No. 14, the number under the destination sign. Buildings in the view are the Bank of Australasia, Commonwealth Bank, Cooke & Co Auctioneer, a sign saying "Vai Purdue"? National Mutual Building and Craigs Hotel. The tram crossing Lydiard St has 6 windows - possibly tram No. 9 or 7. There a lot of switches or equipment on the centre pole by the tram with a section insulator in the overhead. An aerial photograph looking along Lonsdale Street west from Swanston Street. It shows the completed 11 storey Myer Emporium (completed in 1929), numerous smoking chimneys and the high dome of the Supreme Court building in William Street. Also visible are cable tram tracks and a cable tram in Lonsdale Street between Swanston Street and Spencer Street. This dates the photo between 1929 and 1935 when the cables trams ceased running west of Elizabeth Street.
