Beatrice Irvine was the daughter of former Victorian Premier Sir William Irvine. From age 13 she lived at ‘Killeavey’ off Laughing Waters Road (later accessed from Reynolds Road). In 1923 she married James Morrison and the couple received Killeavey as a wedding gift. The property supported fruit and vegetable growing as well as an impressive botanical garden. But James died in 1936 after a period of ill health, leaving Beatrice to support their six children. To make matters worse, the house was totally destroyed in the Black Friday bushfires in 1939 but was rebuilt. Beatrice became involved in community issues. In particular, she was an active member of the Eltham Women's Auxiliary, which was formed in 1945 to raise funds for the establishment of an Eltham War Memorial. From the outset, it was decided that this would take the form of a Baby Health Centre, a Pre-School and a Children’s Library, set in a garden of remembrance. Thanks to tireless fund-raising, the project came to fruition in the 1950s when, one by one, the three children's welfare buildings opened in Main Road (having previously been in temporary premises): they are collectively known as the Eltham War Memorial site. Beatrice continued to live at Killeavey and became well regarded as a botanist and naturalist. She died in 1989 and is buried in Eltham Cemetery with her husband and one of their sons. The (rebuilt) house has since been demolished. All that remains is a fragment of the garden. Brass coated piece with a large size. This piece has a discoloured and beaten surface with visible hit marks, deformation at the back of the blade and green spots in handle area. The hand anatomic handle is faceted and designed with a thumb rest section at the angle. Welding sections are visible along the blade base external canal and handle attachment area. The painting was commissioned by ANZCA to mark the presidential term of Dr Lindy Roberts from 2012 until 2014. The artist Robert Hannaford has a long history of painting portraits of politicians and distinguished professionals in the field. Colour photograph of a Coutt's Mask lying on a wooden table. The mask is circular, made of metal and has a curved opening with a raised lip that is resting on the table. There is a small metal loop on the mask and a thin metal hinge with screws is curved from one side to the other. H. Bellamy Gardner, an anaesthetist at the Charing Cross Hospital, was the first to use open ether in England and was responsible for popularizing the technique. Bellamy Gardner's mask consists of a wire frame which was covered with layers of gauze. He recommended constructing a face-pad consisting of several layers of gauze which were rolled together and tied to make an oval. This was applied to the face and the mask rested on the top. Ether was then administered directly on to the mask.Oval chrome-plated steel wire frame designed to fit around a face. The wire-framed dome has both vertical and horizontal wire components to sit over a patient's nose and mouth. Ether was applied to a gauze pad which was held securely in place by a hinged wire lid. Steel box holding syringe parts. There are four hollow metal rods resting in metal clasps attached to a baseboard inside the tin. Some of the rods appear to have metal wire threaded through (purpose unknown). There are a number of clasps attached to the baseboard and top-plate which indicate syringes would have been housed there.Maker's mark stamped into tin: THACKRAY / LEEDS

Pale blue cardboard box with white (discoloured) and blue manufacturer's label adhered to front. Inside the box is a cardboard rest holding a glass syringe with metal point and hand grip. The plunger has a metal end, with a rubber or plastic plunge. The manufacturer's label records it as a Record type hypodermic syringe, an Everett Product, and distributed by the Amalgamated Dental Co Ltd of Melbourne and Sydney. Additional information on the label suggests it have been marketed as The Laminex.
