At the time this caused great concern amongst tramway museums. The problem was later resolved by the Bendigo Trust rebuilding a former scrapped Bendigo Birney tramcar No. 27, partly paid for by the Government for the Adelaide Museum. This tram, Adelaide MTT 1924 G-Type No. 303 is operational at the St Kilda Tramway Museum, Adelaide. Other museums did not receive their promised tramcars. Built as a toy, either by a well resourced home workshop or by a toy maker. Have been well used or loved with missing wheels and damaged roof. Possibly dates from the early 1900s. St Kilda was a popular destination for Melbourne cable trams. Demonstrates a toy cable tram set.Cable tram set made from wood and pressed metal. Grip car or dummy has remnants of paint (green and gold) on the sides, holes for wheels on the two wood blocks on the underside. Has an eye hook at one end and a hole for another at the other end. Seat made from timber with a steel wire or rod to represent a grip lever. Metal secured to wood base with nails. Has four metal Staunchions on either side. Trailer similar construction with sides stamped or cut from sheet steel with holes at either end for a eye or hook and wheels. Roof on both items has been pressed and assembled. Yields information about the 1968 proposals to close both the Ballarat and Bendigo tramway systems by the state government.Series of newspaper clippings adhered to three quarto lined sheets about the 1968 attempt by the Victorian Government to close the Ballarat and Bendigo tramway systems. .1 - "Trams will go from two cities" - The Sun Friday 19/7/1968, about the Government's decision - gives reasons for the closure. .2 - "Protest over tram protest" - The Sun, 28/8/1968 - with a photo of No. 35 and that the Ballarat Save the Trams Committee not supporting a public protest meeting called by tramway employees. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Miss A Coote of St Kilda, stamped in Ballarat on 22-8-1905. Fares given on card are : Mount Pleasant and Orphanage and Grenville St. 3d, or Grenville St. and Tram sheds 3d. Printed in a blue/grey ink of various shades onto a white card. Acted as a souvenir card. The letter writer notes the opening of the tramway and having a glorious holiday. One Penny stamp, with Ballarat Cancellation stamp and - "5" stamped on the top of the postage stamp. 1099.1 - photocopy of an article in The Courier, Ballarat Tuesday Feb. 9 1988, page 17 of the house that contained Ballarat ESCo tram No. 12 in the Tuesday Heritage Column of the newspaper. Contains a photograph of the house containing the tramcar. Newspaper Clipping details the former occupiers, the Rayner family, the construction of the extensions around the tramcar, family use, family history and some details of the family members and other local history. The copy of the newspaper Clipping has numerous pin holes in the corner and the rust marks due to use on a display on Tram No. 12 in a display board in the depot from about 1991 to 1998.
