It was built and operated by Bill and Ethel Elkington about 1947. The building is in Art Deco style with an awning, verandah and rendered brick parapet behind which was a pitched roof. The shop front originally featured black tile surrounds which have since been removed. The Ice Cream Cone at the front of the building was unfortunately stolen. Apart from a brief period in the early 2000s, the premises has operated as a corner store or café continuously since it was built. In 2025 it still operates as a café called Delibean. This calendar is significant because it documents a business operated by a prominent Wodonga family.Coloured Calendar for Sunnyside Cash Store and a photograph of the Sunnyside Cash StoreW. Harold and his mother Emily Harris nee Farrell owned Killara Station. He had served at Lone Pine during World War 1 so named the area in honour of that field of battle. Bill Hart added a lubritorium or service station in the late 1950s. It was then also a general store and sub agency for Bank of NSW and also served as a post office. Mrs Hart also operated a small telephone exchange. In 1974 it was for put up for sale for $39,000 plus SAV. It was eventually acquired by Albury Wodonga Development Corporation in about1980. A bid to retain the name Lone Pine as a locality failed. These images are significant because they capture a building which served the community in the Wodonga area and has since been demolished. Two black and white images of the Lone Pine Store and Service Station at Killara.Lone Pine Store and advertising postershistoric sites wodonga, lone pine killara -

It was known as The Corner Store. The owners in chronological order were Le Juge, Jones, Stewart, Elwood, Searles and Russo. This invoice donated by the daughter of its recipient is dated 28 November 1974 at a time when Searles were the proprietors. It shows the customer was allowed to carry a small debt. The donor recalled that a number of Emerald people, including her parents, were not well off and were allowed to do this by the store. The invoice also has a list of items for sale at that time. This 1970's Emerald general store invoice invites some interesting comparisons with present-day supermarkets in relation to what they stock and how they relate to customers. M. Anderson's store on the corner of what is now Kilvington Drive and Heroes Avenue. At the time, these may have respectively been Beaconsfield Road and, according to the label, Avenue of Honor. Anderson's store is believed to have been built by the Stillwell family in 1921, but Anderson had his store at least from 1923 and therefore likely owned it from the point of its first construction. By the late 1940s, Anderson's had become Legge's General Store. It is difficult to determine precisely when within that range this photograph was taken, although one local history page attributes it to the earlier end of the range. We believe Anderson's store was on the corner now occupied by Grace and Louie Booksellers. This photograph captures a now-unfamiliar store in a familiar part of old Emerald, documenting the changes to the commercial landscape over the past century. This black and white photograph is attached to a card backing. The backing is annotated in pen below the photograph, describing its location. Other pencil annotation is present on the obverse and reverse of the backing. The photograph shows a store on the street corner, with a porch shading the walkway in front of the building and other shops along the street. On the corner closer top the camera and across from the store is a lamp post, with another shop besides it. On the photograph paper itself is another annotation, this one printed. Taubman's Store and Post Office circa 1863-1876 Photograph ...The Old Post Office Store was established in 1850 at 191-193 Main Street Bacchus Marsh. In 1863 Thomas Taubman was the house and store owner and storekeeper. In 1866 he opened a branch of the Savings Bank at these premises. In 1876, he left the district. He died in 1901 as the result of a train accident at Moreland.Post Offices are an essential service in any community particularly in the nineteenth century when mail services were the main means for personal and commercial communication over distances. This image is one of the earliest images of a post office in Bacchus Marsh and is therefore an important documentary record of early postal services in the Bacchus Marsh area. This image is of a photographic copy of an original photo. Shown is a double-fronted store and Post Office in two sections , with a group of six men standing at the front. The building appears to be of weatherboard, with shingled roofs. Built in different styles, the two buildings may date from different periods. The buildings are unified by a single verandah supported by seven pillars along the front of the store. A sign erected between two of the pillars reads T. Taubman. On the brickwork a sign reads POST OFFICE above a number of noticeboards. Various items can be seen at the front of the store. ... Seaford Station Store......Store...There is advertising painted on the side of the store....There is advertising painted on the side of the store. Seaford Station Store Postcard Postcard, Colour ...Postcards began to be produced in Victoria from 1876. Between 1900 and 1920, picture postcards in Australia became an incredibly popular phenomenon. People could cheaply and easily send messages, without the formality of a letter, and they provided a cheap form of souvenir. Eventually, every event of significance was commemorated in some way with a postcard, and this led to the development of a ‘picture on one side and a message/stamp on the other’ postcard we are familiar with today. They were also a popular form of advertising. Sepia toned photographic postcard featuring the Seaford Station Store which offered confectionary, tea and refreshment rooms, fruit, vegetables, ice cream, cool drinks and more. In front of the store men and women are standing looking at the camera with a horsedrawn buggy to the left of the image. Centre and Jasper Roads, Bentleigh Photograph Photograph Hay & Corn Store Victor C Smith (Born 1896 Died 1974) ...The first photograph was taken prior to 1910. The location is at the corner of Centre and Jasper Roads, East Brighton, (now known as Bentleigh). It is an early view of John L. and "Minnie" Smith's Hay and Corn Store, situated on the South West corner of those two roads. The first photo was taken prior to the introduction of electricity in the area. A gas lamp and horse "hitching post" can be seen "in shot". There are several loaded wagons waiting in line to have their hay milled to chaff. Farmers came from places as distant as Carrum to have their loads of hay milled into chaff. John Smith was born in 1860 in Point Nepean Road, Brighton, and Minnie was born in Patterson Road, Moorabbin, in a wattle and daub cottage with earthen floor and butter muslin over the windows. The couple married in 1884, Minnie was a devout Methodist and the family became very involved in the development of the local Methodist church. The couple had four children and during the 1890s Depression their first child died, they lost all their possessions, and John's family struggled to survive. Finally in the late 1890s JL Smith was able to rent a shed from Mr Henry Box on the corner of Centre and Jasper Roads, and he later purchased that property. With the gradual improvement in the economy, and the development of the successful market gardening industry in the Shire of Moorabbin, JL Smith's produce store became quite prosperous. Over some years the little "shed" developed into a thriving Hay and Corn Store. JL Smith went on to become Moorabbin Shire President in 1914. He and his wife were active in assisting soldiers returning injured from the 1st WW, in the local Methodist Church and other early community projects. Smith was a typical example of the majority of the early settlers in the Shire of Moorabbin, being god-fearing and devoted to the idea of service to the community. The photographs demonstrate the primitive conditions and early development of what is now a bustling and well-recognised area of Bentleigh, (known as east Brighton before 1907). The photo shows a gas lamp in use before the introduction of electricity in 1916. The Smith's story is representative of the many early pioneering traders, who elected to "set up shop", who suffered the adversity of the 1890s depression, but who survived and made their living in the largely undeveloped area of East Brighton ( now Bentleigh) district. Two black and white early photographs both of the same location. The photos are of the corner of Centre and Jasper Roads, Bentleigh. (Prior to 1907 this area was known as East Brighton.) Both photos show J.L Smith's General Merchant Produce store. "Steam Chaff Cutting and Corn Crushing Mills" and the surrounding area at differing stages. In the first photo taken prior to 1910, we can see there are several horse-drawn carts loaded with hay waiting to be milled, a gas lamp and a horse "hitching post". The store is just a single unadorned, shed. The later, second photo of the same area, shows improvements and the further development of that site.
