The Edwardian building was opened on the 23rd January 1916 and was blessed by Archbishop Mannix. It was the convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart and the building functioned as a convent in Sunbury for the next 109 years. It closed on 13th July 2025. For many years the Sisters of St. Joseph were teachers at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. This is a port crock with No. 89 of a special edition of 150 crocks commemorating the restoration of the Old Sunbury Court House. The restoration of the old courthouse which was built in 1885 with an extension to the front and right hand side added in 1965 before the courthouse closed in 1989. The courthouse was restored and reopened in February 1993 as the Visitor Information Centre.The Sunbury Court of Petty Sessions building was built in 1885. Extensions were added in 1965 with the courthouse closing in 1989. After the closure local residents formed a committee to save the courthouse and for it to be used for the benefit of the community this was achieved and with the Shire of Bulla council help was restored and the building reopened as the Sunbury Visitor Information Centre in 1993. The folder of information was produced and distributed and distributed by the Moonee Valley Regional Library in response to requests from the community and local schools. It was available throughout all branches of the Moonee Valley Regional Library. Sunbury Library was a branch of the Moonee Valley Library in the 1980s before it became Hume Library and the Global Learning Centre.The folders were distributed widely throughout the schools and libraries in Melbourne's NW Region.A collection of 7 leaflets and maps in a grey folder, highlighting places of interest covering the outer NW of Melbourne from Essendon, Bulla, Broadmeadows, Romsey, Kilmore and Lancefied. An outline map of the area and a sketch of the Westmeadows bridge is on the cover of the folder. The group in the photograph at the opening of the former Sunbury Courthouse. The Courthouse was built in 1885 and functioned in that capacity until 1989 when it closed. In the 1992, Shire of Bulla council began to restore the building, which was completed in 1993. It functioned as a Tourist Information Centre until 2019, when that service was transferred into the new Global Learning Centre in Sunbury. The building is now occupied by the local Sunbury Aboriginal Corporation. Invited guests at the opening of the restoration in 1993 were from L- R: Back- Phil McMahon, Mayor, Sgt. Doug. The former Sunbury Library was demolished and the empty site is ready for the construction of the new library. The existing building housed the George Evans Museum. The former Sunbury library built in the 1970s closed in December 2017 to make way for the construction of a more modern Global Learning Centre on the same site. During the building work, the library functioned in a temporary building in the shopping centre in Evans Street.
