Life membership award to Eric Wegener Audio Sunshine And District Historical Society Annual General Meeting ...On the 7th July 1913, the Sunshine Technical School opened as a wooden administration building with six classrooms and a large, galvanised iron workshop for the trade apprentices. Over the next few years, the school expanded its subjects to teaching commercial and science subjects. In 1915 the school was opened for girls to attend to learn shorthand and typewriting. To separate the boys from the girls the science lab was partitioned off. By 1992 and with amalgamation and restructure of six schools, the Sunshine Technical School was renamed as the Sunshine College and operated four campuses, three junior campuses for years 7-10 in Ardeer, North Sunshine and West Sunshine and the senior campus in Graham St caters for Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) for years 11 & 12. The College also runs the Harvester Technical College in North Sunshine (opened 2014) which brings the purpose of the school a full circle back to H.V. McKay's original vision of a technical school. in 2020 the site was closed, and the students were relocated to the College's Lachlan Road (former Sunshine West High) and Northumberland Road (former Sunshine North Technical) campuses.Audio tape This audio tape has been digitised. ... During 1950 the Braybrook members voted in favour of allowing the Sunshine Club to amalgamate with them and form the BRAYBROOK AND DISTRICT MOTORCYCLE CLUB. The merger took place at the meeting on 10th July 1950 when office bearers were elected. ...During 1950 the Braybrook members voted in favour of allowing the Sunshine Club to amalgamate with them and form the BRAYBROOK AND DISTRICT MOTORCYCLE CLUB. The merger took place at the meeting on 10th July 1950 when office bearers were elected. ...A meeting was held on 18th August 1947 at the East Sunshine Community Hall with the aim of forming a motor cycle club. The name BRAYBROOK MOTOR CYCLE CLUB was decided upon "as it would cater for riders and non-riding members in all surrounding districts". The first President was Don Minahan with Bert Watson as Secretary. They had been members of the Auto Cycle Union whose members became dissatisfied with the prize money awarded, so the Victorian Motorcycle Association (VMCA) was formed. The President of the VMCA (Mr. A. Clarke) attended the meeting on 3rd September 1947 which was held in the Hall behind the Sunshine Theatre. This became the regular meeting place. The new Braybrook Club affiliated with the VMCA joining clubs from Altona, Coburg, Essendon, Newport and Preston. Membership mostly came from recreational motor bike riders looking for more structured competitive riding experience and enjoyment. The club conducted its events on Sunday afternoons and as sport at that time was not permitted on Sundays, they overcame that obstacle by seeking a silver coin donation (pointing out that "two bob" was expected). The events were mainly dirt scrambles over open land which today is known as "off road". The favourite sites were Sunshine's ample open spaces such as Glengala Road and McIntyre Road, as well as Arundell Road (Keilor) and Laverton. For track racing experience the club formed a very basic dirt track on the open land in Glengala Road west of the original Sunshine Golf Club, which was very popular on Sunday afternoons for both riders and spectators. In the early 1950's Motorbike and Sidecar races were also witnessed on some Sundays, on a track near the corner of McIntyre and Furlong Roads, North Sunshine. During 1950 the Braybrook members voted in favour of allowing the Sunshine Club to amalgamate with them and form the BRAYBROOK AND DISTRICT MOTORCYCLE CLUB. The merger took place at the meeting on 10th July 1950 when office bearers were elected. The club disbanded in the mid 1960's due to the massive residential development occurring in the Sunshine district, and so activities were merged with the Newport Club. The above information is mainly compiled from Sunshine Advocate articles published on 29/8/47, 12/9/47, and 30/6/50, and from written details supplied by Mr. J. N. Willaton. Further details or corrections from interested readers are welcome. The Braybrook and District Motorcycle Club has not existed in its own right for several decades. The sticker depicting the club crest serves as a historical reminder that the club was once part of the local recreational scene.Dark blue, silver, and clear plastic sticker on right hand top corner of glass plate that previously was a side window of a car. Sticker has been left on the glass in case removal may damage it. Audio Sunshine and District Historical Society Annual General Meeting ...After European settlement in the mid 1850s, the North Albion site was being used as grassland for farming and grazing. In the late 1930's, the threat of another world war in Europe was developing and the Australian Government decided it needed to increase and to be more independent in the manufacturing of munitions and explosives. The Albion site was chosen opposite the existing commercial ICI ANZ factory. ICI ANZ was chosen to design, construct and operate the new facilities. In 1940 the factory first began production of propellants for small arms and artillery that were required by the military forces during WW2. After the end of the WW2 the plant continued producing explosives and fertilizers for commercial use. The site was closed down in 1986, and the site went through an extensive decontamination and cleanup before being redeveloped into a housing estate with a shopping complex located in its center. The Black Powder Mill, built in 1942 is the only remaining building from the Albion explosives Factory. Noel Tozer is a former President of the Friends of the Black powder Mill. He and his wife Frances held the first cottage meetings in their Devonshire Road home. For nine years these meetings continued to be held there, including people being baptised in their bath. The Sunshine Gospel Hall in Martin Street, Sunshine was the third Pentecostal meeting place ...The Pentecostalism movement in Sunshine was established in 1916 by Charles Lewis Greenwood, a young 25 year old Sunshine resident and employee of the H.V. McKay Sunshine Harvester Works. He and his wife Frances held the first cottage meetings in their Devonshire Road home. For nine years these meetings continued to be held there, including people being baptised in their bath. The Sunshine Gospel Hall in Martin Street, Sunshine was the third Pentecostal meeting place to be established in Melbourne. Its construction was completed in February 1925. The small hall was described as a timber hall of weatherboard construction with a small brick room at the back. The hall was simply named as the Sunshine Gospel Hall. In 1925, Adolfo C. Valdez arrived from America, he joined the Sunshine group and became its leader that year. Shortly afterwards, the church's congregation outgrew the Sunshine Gospel Hall, and in 1926, the congregation moved to the Richmond Theatre on Bridge Road. This theatre was later to become known as the 'Richmond Temple'. The Martin Street Hall then became the 1st Sunshine Scout Hall. In 1994, the site was sold for private development, and a residential house was built on the site. In 1926, W. J. Nankervis, an enthusiastic Pentecostal poet wrote an unpublished song about the brick prayer room, but unfortunately only part of the words are known. 'There's a little brick room in Sunshine Hall, whose walls give forth no sound, you can shout as you will with never a fear of troubling the folks around'.These documents record the early established of the Pentecostalism movement in Sunshine. The documents also describes the character of Charles Lewis Greenwood as being 25 years old and married for one year. although small in stature, he was a lively, effervescent young man, with abundant energy and drive. When he preached, it was with obvious joy and with infectious enthusiasm. His simple, literal approach to the Word of God gave an authority to this message that caused people to respond. He spoke the language of the working man, and he made clear what he said.5720.01 - Australian Pentecostalism In Sunshine.jpg 5720.02 - Australian Pentecostalism In Sunshine.jpg 5720.03 - Australian Pentecostalism In Sunshine.jpg 5720.04 - Australian Pentecostalism In Sunshine.jpgpentecostal church, martin street, sunshine, sunshine gospel hall, devonshire road, charles lewis greenwood, adolfo c. valdez, w.j.nankervis -
