Alice Bertha Schwerkolt was the second daughter of Louis and Francesca (nee Both) and the granddaughter of August Johann and Paulina Schwerkolt. She was the child of Louis Schwerkolt and Francisca (Both) Kruse who was the daughter of August's second wife, Wilhelmina. In 1913 Alice married William Martyn Tanner.
