Image shows a newspaper photo of the MMTB U Class Tram 203 on temporary track at east side of excavation for underpass in Epson Road Flemington with Racecourse railway line to eliminate level crossing. The road was often closed to all traffic, including trams on race days by the railways. Set of five colour prints of tram W5 725 derailed in High St Kew during track reconstruction work at the corner of Derby St Kew. Tram was bound for North Balwyn when it derailed on a section of track that had been dismantled, possibly when it hit or dislodged a track crossover. The photographs show track work at the Swan St railway overbridge Burnley as part of the construction of the third track between Burnley and Hawthorn stations. The work involved a temporary track on part of the future bridge which involved single line working for tram line for a while. Construction crews are working on setting up the deviation for the temporary track. There is a sign for Leighton contractors. Work was done during April 1969 - item 1426. The photo shows the intersection of Domain Road and St Kilda Road with W class tram 375 (Melbourne) at the tram stop for Domain Road after the closure of the cable tram lines in St Kilda Road, with installation of temporary tracks on the western side of St Kilda Road. Temporary platforms have been installed. Many passengers are waiting at the stop. The former cable tram lines are in position though some of the outbound cable tram track in St Kilda Road has been removed. There is a conductor on the outbound or southbound platform.
