It began when John Toon, born in London, who migrated to Melbourne in pursuit of the gold, before settling in the Boroondara area working with the government and managing the first banks in the area. He is credited with much of the first development of the Boroondara area, helping to sub-divide land for housing. The descendants of John Toon would continue to inhabit the area some time.
