The TOON Family were among the first pioneers of Kew. It began when John Toon, born in London, who migrated to Melbourne in pursuit of the gold, before settling in the Boroondara area working with the government and managing the first banks in the area. He is credited with much of the first development of the Boroondara area, helping to sub-divide land for housing. The descendants of John Toon would continue to inhabit the area some time. The file includes: Many copies of John Toon and his life, a list of Toon family descendants as well as their addresses, as well as information on the Rechabites, an organisation of which John Toon was a member.
