Scouting in Kew began back in 1909, with the establishment of the first Scouting group (1st Kew). Overtime, many different Scout groups were formed, up to seventeen, with strong participation in the community. This included competitions, camping trips, festivals, and philanthropic activities. The many groups that once existed has now, in 1015, been reduced to two, that is 1st and 4th Kew. Kew and Kew East troops consist of Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. The file includes: A personal recollection of one John Hood of his time at 4th Kew, a program for the 1963 Queen’s Scout Celebration Dinner, an article of a recollection of Alan Attwood’s time at 4th Kew, many newspaper articles regarding the visit of orphans from Chernobyl, a history of scouting in Kew, a history of the 4th Kew Scout group, and three issues of the ‘Kookaburra’, a self-published magazine from 1st Kew Scout Group. The KHS archive also holds separate and extensive records of Scout groups including photographs, publications, manuscripts, and realia.
