The Quick family were among the earliest pioneers of Kew, having started with the immigration of John and Ellen Quick in 1849 from England. John would find wealth in the goldfields once worked and would use the money earned to buy land in what is now Kew. In this endeavour with friends found, he sought to name the area ‘Cotham’ but was ousted by an official who preferred its now recognisable name. Cotham Road is a legacy of this disagreement. The file includes: Research notes compiled by Aubrey A. Quick, great grandson of John.
