William & Lily Wishart were a married couple who both had strong connections to Kew and played important roles in it. William Wishart was the Mayor of Kew in 1906/07, while Lily often undertook a role as President of the local Red Cross. William, before becoming Mayor, was a real estate agent and also an Elder of the Kew Presbyterian Church. Will and Lily would marry in 1886, and initially lived along Gellibrand Street in Kew. When William became mayor, he held a ‘Cherry Blossom Festival’ to celebrate Japanese culture, and was seen wearing traditional robes. William would pass away in 1935, followed by Lily in 1947. There is a Wishart Street in Kew East. The file includes: Correspondence addressed to the Kew Historical Society, a photo of Lily Wishart, and a book handwritten by William.
