The Voluntary Aid Detachment was a unit of civilian women that volunteered their medical expertise for the wider British Empire during World War 1 and World War 2. This attracted volunteers from across the world, of course including Australia. The City of Kew saw volunteers, especially Lillias Jerram, who provides the main documentation for the detachment in Kew. The file includes: Two photos of Lillias Jerram both in the Voluntary Aid Detachment and at her 89th birthday, and a letter between Miss Jerram and the Kew Historical Society.
