Black and white photograph of the interior a W2 end saloon showing the longitudinal seats upholstered in leather. Photo taken at Preston Workshops, shows interior fit out at the time of construction, with central strap hangers (leather), light fittings. Tram would appear to have been service for some time as it is fitted with advertisements and M&MTB posters. Destination City, 4th Edition page 42 notes that W2 329, 331, 332, 335 were fitted with leather seating in 1929. Negatives No. N334 and 335 and black and white prints made by a laser printer (stored in folder ) of fitters, overhead crews lining up the overhead at the Russell St. crossover in Bourke St. Has W6 988 in the photo, along with tower wagons 2 and 8. 1606.2 shows device laid between rails that allows the location of the overhead to be checked, relative the to the centre line of the track. 72 - Melbourne Tramway & Omnibus Co. Bell Punch No. D1335. A heavy nickel plated steel ticket or fare strip cancelling / registering mechanism used on Melbourne cable trams. When a fare was sold, the bell would ring advising the passenger that their fare have registered. "An ingenious device resembling in principle the ticket punch of a railway porter. It is carried by the conductor who wears pinned to his coat a 'trip-slip'. He punches this once for every fare received; the action is simultaneously registered on a dial inside the punch and bell rings to appraise the passenger of the fact. The punch is provided with a patent lock, the secret of which is known only at headquarters and effective system of check is thus secured." (" A story of the Melbourne Cable Tramway System" - page 54). Used by the MT&O and MMTB until 1922/23 when replaced by the check ticket system. Manufactured by the Railway Register Manufacturing Company. Lock number not known. Bendigo, Charing Cross, 8-1-1961. Trams 30 (large white bumper) and 19 (top and bottom safety stripes, but no lighting) on Eaglehawk/Quarry Hill run, and trams 29, 28 on North Bendigo/Golden Square. Both Birneys have had bumpers painted white. Large white painted traffic island on North side. Ezywalkin, Beehive buildings and Mobilgas sign. By front door of tram 30 is a 'Safety Zone' sign. Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, electric model, made by Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd in China. Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. Model made from plastic and metal, with operable lights and motors with operable trolley poles, swivelling bogies, destination of St Kilda, showing route 16. Headlights function in the direction of travel. Package has manufacturing date of 2008 printed on it. Contains a plastic cover strip, plastic holder for the tram, plastic lift out strip, a printed Certificate of Authenticity, No. 335 of 700 and a folded sheet giving instructions for the use of the tram on a model tramway - up to 15V DC.trams, tramways, models, w5 class, the met, cooee models, tram 812
