1985 was the 150 anniversary of Victoria. Moorabin, Mordialloc, Sandringham and Phillip Island Councils organised a Cavalcade of Transport which included a re-enactment of a mail coach ride from Melbourne to Phillip Island in 1869. This trip was by Mr Ray Tovell at the invitation of William Harbison to stay with him at Phillip Island. Citizens were to dress in period costume and each municipality was to hand a letter containing local information to the coach driver along the route..Historical8 pages of typed letters and documents explaining the reasons for and details of the occasion. Newspaper, Eagle star ferry sinks, 30 December 1978
The Eagle Star left from Stony Point to take in Tankerton on the way to Cowes. It carried about 160 passengers of all ages, many of whom were probably planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve or start their holidays on the Island. The 48-year-old ferry had only recently been bought by a co-operative of French Island residents. Photograph, Narrabeen ferry at Cowes jetty, 1928
Photo by Arthur Woodley. "Narrabeen" formerly a Sydney Harbour cargo ferry, was acquired in 1928. A McFarlane Winch powered a heavy duty Derrick capable of putting an omnibus on board. It was able to be operated by one man - ship's engineer Archie McNeil - Captain Jimmy Clarke. It transported cargo, livestock, passengers and vehicles. Only one death occurred during "Narrabeen's" life to a passenger who refused to observe a warning.Close-up "Narrabeen" berthed at Cowes Jetty.
