This is a photograph of The Avenue leading to the Sunbury Asylum. it is lined with pine trees and post and rail fences. At some stage oak trees were also planted along the avenue. In the late 1990s the trees along the west side of The Avenue were removed as a result of housing development. This is a photograph of the site and the remains of the Lochton flour mill which was situated on a horse shoe bend along Deep Creek at Bulla. Captain William Morrison Hunter took up land along Deep Creek and built his home in 1850.He opened the flour mill in 1856, which was worked by a number of millers until it ceased operations in 1961.Flour milling was one of the early industries carried out in the Sunbury and Bulla district. Canon Gully is situated about 2 km upstream from the railway bridge at Rupertswood. In 1864 it was the site for the military encampment of the Victorian Volunteer Forces. William Clarke allowed the military to stage the annual event on his property. Further encampments were held on this site in 1874 and 1877.A coloured photograph of a wide valley with cleared hills in the background. This was taken to record part of the course of the former Surrey Hills Golf Club. The Surrey Hills Golf Club was founded by Mr Hugh W McLeod in 1894. The first president was Mr A W Harston. Mr William Meader was the first honorary secretary and the club champion for several years. Another notable identity was Mr. Harry Culliton, who contributed golf notes to "The Argus" for many years. As pressure for land for development grew, the club was forced to move. It eventually became the Riversdale Golf Club and its history is outlined in the book 'Riversdale Golf Club: a history 1892-1977' by John Arnold.A coloured photograph of a streetscape. The 'Meeise' French car is parked outside the former Mechanics Institute Hall in Stawell Street, Sunbury. J Eadie was responsible for the building of the hall in 1885 and the foundation stone was laid by Lady Janet Clarke. The former Shire of Bulla conducted their council meetings in the hall from 1923 until 1956 when new offices were built in Macedon Street. Later the RSL took over occupancy of the hall and it became known as the Memorial Hall.
