This is a set of six photographs of Army Survey Regiment personnel who volunteered as extras in the ANZACS TV Series filmed in 1985. Many of the extras playing the roles of Australian soldiers were serving members of the Army Survey Regiment, Bendigo and the Armoured Regiment, Puckapunyal. This was done to keep costs down so that actors did not have to learn how to act as soldiers or to have to teach them how to use the weapons. Army Svy Regt’s 28 personnel left Bendigo in the early hours of the morning arriving at Phillip Island’s Cowes Motor Inn. Wardrobe staff make-up artists dressed the soldiers from both units in authentic WW1 uniforms in readiness for filming at Woolamai Surf Beach, on the other side of Phillip Island. Filming for the day involved a battle scene simulation of the beach landings at Gallipoli, Turkey. A long day of filming ensued, with 8 arduous re-takes of charges from the beach to the steep cliffs, and the scrubland beyond the cliffs before the producers were satisfied with the footage. The producers provided ample refreshments back at Cowes Motor Inn at the end of the day, before Army Svy Regt’s 28 personnel departed on the 4-hr trip back to Bendigo. The Sanyo Australia Pty. Ltd. factory in Wodonga opened in 1974 with 35 staff and production peaked in 1976-1977 when it employed 360 people. In the first ten years 350,000 televisions were assembled from Japanese parts, however by 1984 the number of staff had reduced to 112 and the factory closed in 1987. All Sanyo televisions were then imported from Japan. The Sanyo VHF colour television has local, state and national significance as it is thought to have been assembled in Sanyo Australia's factory in Wodonga. This television set was purchased in Wonthaggi in 1962. it originally had a 12ft long trailing antenna. In 1984, Television camera crews were in attendance for the launch of National Arthritis Week (NAW). This photo depicts Pauline Schulzoff being interviewed and filmed by a television crew. The photo appears on page 3 of the No 33, August 1984 edition of News Review, the quarterly newsletter of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV). It is captioned: "Pauline Schulzeff talks to a TV camera at the opening of Arthritis Week". The accompanying article states that the launch of Arthritis Week 1984 was held at the Independent Living Centre, and received much radio and television coverage. "On TV, news reports appeared on Channel 2 on 6 and 13 May, and BTV 6, and interviews on BTV 6 and GLV 8." BTV 6 and GLV 8 were both television stations in regional Victoria, with BTV 6 being in Ballarat and GLV 8 being in the Gippsland/La Trobe Valley region.
