James Tyson was born in Sydney in 1823. Along with his brother the operated a wholesale and retail butchery in 1852, slaughtering cattle from their property near Balranald. He had worked his way up from farm labouring to droving cattle and initially had a property at the junction of the Lachlan and Murrumbidgee Rivers in 1846. With the discovery of gold he began droving cattle to Bendigo in 1851. He extended his holdings throughout NSW, Gippsland and then into Queensland where he died in 1898. Photograph - FAMILY LIVING IN LARGE TREE TRUNK

Sepia image (copy) picture shows family gathered at base of large tree trunk with door opening. Two small children in doorway, woman holding younger child inside tree, two men either side of image. Both men are wearing suit coats, vests and wearing hats. Straw broom and pots fixed to tree trunk. Man on RH side has an axe to his right. PLEASE NOTE: Letter with photo inquiring about the people in photo, states that the image is that of Peter Tyson, younger brother of James, his wife Margaret Sheil, and their twin daughters, Alice and Harriet. Diary is of accounts with limited text of a written diary on RH wide of sheets. Bookkeeper was Robert Primrose, whose name appears frequently in the book. Further research by Murray Poustie discovered that the photograph may actually be of Nicholas Penny, his wife Eva and their children Charlie, May, George and Nicholas. Also in the photograph on the left is their neighbour, Mr. John Green. The Photograph was taken by Max Lowenhardt when the Penny family was living in the tree at Fumina in 1906-07 following devastating bushfires. Fumina is in timber country at the foot of the Baw Baw Mountains and the area was frequently affected by major bushfires. The photograph was featured on the cover of the Gippsland Heritage Journal No.19, 1996 and is also extensively noted as ''The Penny family's tree home at Fumina'' in other publications including Vision & Realisation.person, receipts

Newspaper article titled History just keeps motoring on. Bendigo Advertiser 21/7/97. Photo shows Greg Smith, his son Brenton and friend Doug Clarkson making their way in an International Motor Buggy to a Bendigo Veteran and Vintage Car Club meeting which was held at the Bendigo Chinese Gardens Museum. The motor buggy has large buggy type wheels and has no cabin. The number plate is 246. Written below the photo is: There was the same Motor Buggy in St Just Point owned by Tyson Family. James Tyson (8 April 1819 - 4 December 1898) purchased Heyfield Station from the Firebrace family in the late 1860s. Tyson referred to Heyfield as his "cabbage patch". Tyson was famous for insisting his workers were accommodated at the same standard as he was, and arranged for George Drew (1834-1892) and his family to come to Heyfield from his home station at Deniliquin to make bricks for the homestead and for the workers quarters. As far as can be ascertained they arrived in 1868, and selected land that became known as the Brick Yard. After making the bricks for Tyson he operated as would any normal brickmaker. George carried on the business until his death, with it being then operated by his sons Jack and Henry. Many buildings in the district contain Drew bricks, which are sometimes smaller than normal bricks. The most accessible example is the first Anglican Church of 1874, now in the school grounds.This brick has historical significance as an example of one of the early bricks made by the family, similar to those made for James Tyson, an important figure in Australian history. It has community significance as the story of the Drew family (who still remain in Heyfield) provides the community with a strong link to Tyson. The family has remained linked to the Anglican Church (having made the bricks for the first church), as well as being active in the wider local community.A single clay brick with two thumbprints in diagonal corners, ends glazed.brick industry, brickmaking, bricks

History of the Love family, early selectors of Tatura and original residents of Moyola. Renamed to Moyola Park c.1950 as Margaret Love, the last surviving daughter of the family, wanted to keep the name Moyola for her home in Tatura. Upon her death she left her home, land and £5700 for the development of homes for the elderly, poor, and in need members of the community, resulting in the current Moyola Cottages and Moyola Lodge aged care facility.
