The original sketch drawn by Ivan Dinsdale, won first prize in the "little treasures" exhibition. Captain Grossard was accidentally shot in 1868. The date of 1798 on the sketch may be from Bass's Whaleboat journey in 1797?. The Ventnor School had its beginning in the Ventnor Hall, which was built by parents of the children. It was opened on 5th May 1915 and Miss Ruby Bright was the first Head Teacher. Later an area was purchased from Mr Thomas Jones and a new school was erected at a cost of £790.2.6.
