Bicentennial celebrations were held throughout Australian in 1988. The Australian Bicentennial Authority was established in 1979, and the Victorian Council was appointed in 1986. Its role was to plan and coordinate state-based activities for Australia's 1988 Bicentenary. The Council was jointly funded by the State and Commonwealth governments and was responsible for developing programs that celebrated the nation's cultural heritage and addressed community needs. In c.1960, when the photograph was taken on which the postcard is based, both buildings were still owned by the Victorian Government and were a functioning police station and court house. In 1900, ownership of the post office had been transferred to the new Commonwealth Government. In the first decade of the twenty-first century, the police station and court house were offered for sale. They were subsequently purchased and renovated by the City of Boroondara. Maternity and care of the baby / prepared by the Victorian Branch of the British Medical Association and issued by the Commissioner of Maternity Allowances. Printed by L. F.
