Flagstaff Hill is a maritime museum which draws on the rich maritime history of the region. It is situated overlooking Lady Bay in Warrnambool and is designed to represent the town of Warrnambool in around the 1870-80’s As well as paid staff on site it enjoys a large volunteer group who do various tasks around the village from tours to maintenance and recording of information. This badge recognises the contribution of one such volunteer. The photo is taken at Marmaka beach, located in northern Ithaca near the seaside village of Frikes. Marmaka is known for its crystal clear waters and white pebbles. It was a favourite spot for locals to picnic and was usually reached by boat. A marsh located behind the beach was in the past used for mud bathing. The 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment often referred to itself as the 'Devil's Own' because of its number 13. The regiment had an unofficial hat and collar badge cast featuring a dancing devil.
