This is a document requesting a donation for the Fortuna Pipes and Drums for the update of some of their equipment. The members of the band are shown and named in the accompanying photo. Information about the Fortuna Pipes and Drums is also in Valerie Loyejoy's book " Mapmakers of Fortuna, A History of the Army Survey Regiment" ISBN 0-646-42120-4 and included in the Victorian Collection as item 6000. The Band was originally formed in 1993 from members of the local Masonic Lodge and first played for the Survey Corps Day Parade in 1994 after a request from the then RSM WO1 Phil Meagher. The Army was able to provide the original "Black Watch" tartan kilts. Using an original Survey Corps Badge c. 1915 provided by former WO1 Keith "Aki" Barber, a number of replica metal Survey Corps theodolite badges were struck and used along with the purple Survey Corps lanyard by the band. This cookbook was produced by the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums, partly as a fund-raiser and partly as a promotional exercise. A Pipe Band was formed in Warrnambool in 1906 with twelve foundation members. Simon Fraser was the original Pipe Major and the band has had some changes of name since its foundation. The band was not operating for some time during the years of World War One and again during World War Two but today under the name of Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums it performs at concerts, dinners, band competitions, official functions, street parades etc and has won both Victorian and interstate Championship titles. This book is of interest as an example of a fund-raising exercise by a local organization early in the 21st century. This is a soft-cover book of 94 pages. It is a cookery book published by the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums. It has a blue cover overlaid with plastic and is bound with plastic rings. This book contains the report from the select committee on Castlemaine and Sandhurst water supply; with the proceedings of the committee, minutes of evidence and appendices. It also contains the report Of the Engineer-In-Chief of Railways, and reply of the Chief Engineer of Water Supply on the works constructed by the Victorian Water Supply Department, presented to both houses of parliament by His Excellency’s command. Ferdinand M. Krause, was a lecturer at the Ballarat School of Mines in Geology Mineralogy Mining Engineering and Surveying. He was a Fellow of the Geological Society and a Fellow of the Linnian Society. He was assistant engineer for the Ballaarat and Ballarat East Water Supply Committee and helped plan local reservoirs.A brown cloth hard cover, foolscap book with leather spine. Title is written in black on the title page. "Water Supply Reports" is engraved in gold on spine. It includes a table showing the monthly and yearly rainfall and shade temperature at Ballarat, 2nd February, 1885. It also includes two reports and two replies, a map No.7082.2 of Victorian Water Supply, Castlemaine and Sandhurst district general plan including lines of Aqueduct, Reservoirs. Around the same time, new cryogenic air separation processes, based on work undertaken by Carl von Linde and others, replaced the barium oxide process. This badge comes from the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums and is presumably attached to an item of clothing. The Warrnambool Pipe Band was formed in 1906, originally to popularise Scottish music and later to foster a taste for bagpipe music. Simon Fraser, the first Pipe Major, held the position from 1906 to 1910. The band appears to have gone into recess during the latter years of World War One and was apparently re-formed in 1935. Again in World War Two the band was in recess The band has had several changes of title but is today known as the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums. The badge is of interest as an example of one of the badges belonging to Warrnambool & District Pipes and Drums, an important and long-serving band in Warrnambool. This is a multi-coloured cloth badge, circular in shape. The outside edge is machine stitched in yellow and there is a blue band with the wording in yellow ‘Warrnambool & District Pipes and Drums’. In the inner circle there is an image, in colours of white, red, yellow, black and dark blue, of two drums, a staff and bagpipes stitched on a blue background. The Snowy Water Inquiry was commissioned in 1998 with a brief to recommend environmental water release options to the Commonwealth, Victorian, and NSW Governments so that corporatisation of the Snowy Mountains Scheme could proceed. These release options related to the Snowy River below Jindabyne, the Murray River and other rivers associated with the Scheme. The Orbost Waterworks Trust was constituted under the Water Act 1915 and the Water Act 1916 and gazetted 10th Jan 1917. The Trust consisted of six members who were responsible for the provision of reticulated water to meet the needs of the town. The first reticulated supply to Orbost was installed about 1920. The Trust became part of the Orbost Water Board constituted under the Water and Sewerage Authorities (Restructuring Act) 1983. From 1995 the area has been served by the East Gippsland Region Water Authority. The East Gippsland Region Water Authority was constituted on January 1, 1995. The new Authority assumed responsibility for the services previously provided by the Mitchell Water Board, the Tambo Water Board, the Orbost Water Board and the Mallacoota Water Board. East Gippsland Water is the registered business name of the East Gippsland Region Water Authority. These four photographs were taken during a 2/4 RAR Pipes and Drums visit to the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo probably in 1990. Although the reason for their visit is unknown there were several events held at the time commemorating the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Survey Corps, such as the Freedom of Entry to the City of Bendigo Parade, an Open Day, visits by the Prime Minister Hon.
