VHS Movie, MAD WAX, 1986 (estimated)
A comedy surf film featuring Tom Carroll, Kong Elkerton, Bryce Ellis, Mark Sainsbury, and Ross Clarke-Jones as the Wiz. The Wiz stumbles on an old book about making your own wax and mixes a batch which magically transports him and his friends to some of the world's best surf spots. Music by popular Australian band GANGgajangMAD WAX had a national theatrical release in 1987. The film was shown at surf clubs, pubs and other surf film related venues during this period. The film is significant for the surfers who appear in the film (2 time World Champion Tom Carroll) and the 'loose' narrative thread which was common place in many surf films during the eighties. The film features Mark Sainsbury a popular professional surfer from New South Wales who suddenly died of a brain anueryism on 6th AUgust 1992. The poster and cover art for the VHS case were done by noted Quiksilver designer/artist Peter Webb. MAD WAX had its World Premier at the Enmore Theatre, Enmore, New South Wales on Saturday 28th February, 1987. The screening was accompanied by a live performance by GANGgajang whose music appears on the film soundtrack.VHS Surf film released by Quiksilver in February 1987. Functional object - Candlestick Maker
Used in the 18th to early 20th century for making hand-poured candles before commercial candle production became widespread. Commonly used in rural homes, farms, and small workshops where self-sufficiency was key. The process involved: Melting tallow (animal fat) or beeswax in a pot. Pouring the liquid wax into the mould through the funnel openings. Inserting wicks (often pre-dipped in wax for rigidity). Allowing the wax to harden and cool. Removing the finished candles by gently heating the mould or flexing the base.A rectangular, cast-iron mould with twelve tapered cylindrical tubes arranged in parallel. The top plate has twelve funnel-shaped openings, allowing melted wax to be poured into the mould. The base plate provides stability and likely helps in cooling or supporting the structure. The mold is rusted, indicating age and exposure to moisture over time. The object has visible cobwebs and surface corrosion, suggesting long-term storage.wax, candle, candle holder, candle maker, light, household item, commercial equipment, wick -

Functional object - match box
Wax matches also known as 'strike anywhere' were invented in 1826 by William Newton in England. It consisted of a wax stem with embedded cotton threads and a tip of phosphorus. Cases of various styles were introduced to protect against accidental combustion. This simple but robust metal cylindrical box with close fitting cap made it attractive to soldiers in World War One. Bryant & May was a British company created in the mid-19th century specifically to make matches. In 1901 they acquired the rights to the Swan Vesta process.Match cylinder with press on lid.On cap " Bryant & Mays Wax Vesta London"match, bryant & may
