1972 photograph of the Rowse Brothers workman's cottage built on the bank of the Olinda Creek in 1938.This photograph has a detailed inscription on the back handwritten by John Lundy-Clarke in 1974.Rowse Bros Workman’s Cottage built in 1938 on bank of the Olinda Creek at the 800’ contour on Crown Allotment 925B of materials and bricks taken on demolishing in the same year the house built in 1897 for J.W. Richardson before his marriage to Jeanie Green and their family’s home till 1912 when they went to Queensland. Sold to Rowses in 1913 was Rowse family home till the thirties then workman’s cottage. The shopping centre in Mt Beauty, both buildings and streetscape, have undergone significant changes since 1973. The kindergarten has undergone extensive remodelling, The Chalet has been replaced by Svarmisk Resort and Accommodation Spa. Tawonga hospital has undergone extensive renovation and is now Mt Beauty Hospital AND Kiewa Valley House. The Workman’s Club changed name to the Country Club and has since closed down. Hospital and Kiewa Valley House now occupy what is shown as a vacant lot opposite the motel which is now called Mt Beauty Motor Inn.The houses in Mt Beauty were brought in by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria when they constructed Mt Beauty Town for their workers building the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Blazer - Bowls -Mt Beauty Working Man's Club
Mt Beauty Workman's Club was formed in 1945, re-built and opened in 1954 and again in 1962 and 1968. The Bowls club was founded in 1970 and later was affiliated with the Victorian Ladies' Bowling Association (VLBA) and the North Eastern District LBA in 1974. There were strict rules regarding the Bowlers' uniform.The Mt Beauty Workman's Club was built by the SECV in 1945 to service their employees on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. As Mt Beauty grew it became the centre of activity for residents including the Bowling Club. The blazer is an example of the dress code for men playing bowls at the time.Black wool blazer fully lined with long sleeves, collar, 2 silver buttons. 3 pockets on the front - 2 on the bottom - left and right - and one at the top on the left. This one has a woven green, yellow and white logo with RVBA at the top and 'Mt Beauty Workman's Club' underneath. There is an inside pocket on the top right side with a label 'Blazer and Uniform Specialists / David Lack / Pty Ltd / Melbourne / Name "R. At the Pretty Valley Dam site erection of staff quarters was completed in April, 1947 and accommodation for workmen commenced in 1948 but suspended on 11th May for winter and resumed on 9th November. Construction of this camp was completed in 1949. A large dam was proposed at this site but was never constructed.
