A limited edition of a book "A History of the Bentleigh East Primary School No. 2083 formerly Bentleigh formerly East Brighton 1878-1978" published to mark the centenary of the Bentleigh East Primary School celebrated from 1 – 5th August 1978. The book was compiled by the Principal Peter Morris and is a collection of incidents, reminiscences and anecdotes arranged in chronological order to capture the character of the differing periods through which the school passed. It provides an insight to the development of the area and of the school and includes a list of school principals from 1878 – 1978, an honor roll for WW1 students etc. Notes on the Camm family who donated the School Centenary Book A newspaper article on the centenary celebrations. World War I honor boards — also known as honor rolls — are deeply significant commenorative artifacts found throughout Australia. They serve as both historical records and symbols of community remembrance. These honor board were often made from deeply carved wood and could be found in places of work, churches, City & Shire Halls, schools etc. H.V. McKays Sunshine Harvester Works, located in Sunshine Victoria, was a large company that was proud of their servicemen who served in the military forces during World War I. In August 1917, the Sunshine Harvester Works unveiled its Honor Board during a tree-planting ceremony in Sun Crescent, Sunshine to commemorate local soldiers who had gone to war. Photocopy of a school assignment. It describes a number of local War Memorials and gives information about Frederick Henry Stockfield who is listed on the Mitcham War Memorials. His family lived in Blackburn Road Blackburn and he had worked picking fruit. He was an artillery man who trained in England and fought in the Third Battle of Ypres. He died of wounds on 21/9/1917 and is buried in the Military Huts Cemetery in Dickenbuscg, Belgium. Photographs of his grave and the cemetery are included. There is information about the life of a Gunner and some about his family. Photographs. Maps.
