Riding elephants, visiting sacred temples and lessons in Thai dancing and music were just some of the activities a group of seven year 11 students from Ringwood Secondary College experienced on a recent cultural exchange visit to Thailand. The natural friendliness and hospitality of the Thai people made up for the difference in climate and food, which the students said they found "difficulty to adjust to".

Clipping glued to A4 sheet of paperYear 11 student, Chris Stone, has just returned from sailing on the Alma Doepel. Chris won an Australia Remembers essay competition on what war meant to him. He said the seven-day voyage had given him valuable insight into sailing techniques and had improved his self-confidence. He said he had made lasting friendships from the trip and he would continue to sail whever he could. Photo of Chris included.

Summary:Heathmont College became the first school in Victoria to offer a retail sales management course for Year 11 students. The new program, created with Swinburne University of Technology and Myer Grace Bros., lets students complete both VCE and TAFE modules at the same time. About 22 students will take part, including a six‑week training block at Myer and work toward an advanced certificate in retail sales management. The college already runs similar dual‑recognition programs in hospitality, automotive studies, electronics, engineering and office administration.. (Co-Pilot 27/6/2026).

Clipping glued to A4 sheet of paperThis month (June 1995), seven year 11 students will visit their sister school, Montfort High School in Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city. Another seven year 10, 11 and 12 students will spend three weeks in Japan attending Yatsushiro Higachi High School. Geography teacher, Sandy Young, who will accompany the students to Thailand said the itinerary included an elephant ride, a visit to the Golden Triangle and the hill tribes and three days in Bangkok touring the Grand Palace and the canals. Laurie Bradford, who will accompany the students on a three-week trip to Japan, said they would be billeted with families."We will have two weeks with traditional Japanese families and will spen four to five days touring the Japanese islands". Mr Bradford said that Ringwood Secondary College was going through the formalities of becoming a sister school with Yatsushiro Higachi High School.

Clipping glued to A4 sheet of paperOne hundred of the college's year 7 to 10 students have just returned from a week long band tour around the Warrnambool area. Next week the college's year 10 students leave for New Caledonia for a week and a party of students arrives from Ringwood Secondary College's sister school in Chiang-Mai in Thailand. Later this month the college will also hold its annual bike tour. This year the college has also hosted students from another sister school in Japan and groups of Ringwood students have visited both Thailand and Japan. As well, year 11 students went to Central Australia; year 7 students had an orientation camp; years 10 and 11 each had a physical education camp and the year 12 geography and environmental studies students camped at the Little Desert. RSC Assistant Principal, Gerry Robinson says it's easy to see why the college selected an "International" theme for its 1996 fete.
