"SIGNALS" is an outline of the achievments of the Australian Corpf of Signals over the years from the campaigns in the Middle East to the present day of the victories in New Guinea. Itpays tribute to the Arm of the services which is on duty and maintainimng vital communication channels for the passage of signals traffic to the far-flung Headquarters and Units of the Australian Military Forces.

The Voluteer Defence Corps decided to have their own book to help people understand the Corps. In it's early years it was raised and maintained by the Return Soldiers League. The original mambers had all served in the late war. The book appeared on the Fourth Anniversary of V.D.C establishment in Australia.
TO OUR COMRADES MEN AND WOMEN OF THE FIGHTING SERVICES 'Thesea re the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service to their country; be he that stands it now; tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have the consultion with us, that the harder the confilct the more glorious the triumph"...

This photo was taken somewhere in Europe during World War I. It shows some of the equipment the soldiers had to carry and wear into battle. You will also notice that not all soldiers were not issued with metal helmet to protect them. The conditions that they had to survive under can be seen.

This battery treminal was removed from one of the Japanese Midget Submarines sunk in Sydney Harbour during the night attack on Sunday 31st May 1942 and sold publicly as a souvenir to raise money for the RAN relief funds for sailors.
Metal plate - two round black metal lugs on top of a flat grey lead plate with four Japanese characters stamped on the base off the top of a battery from a Midget Submarine, with a cardboard souvenir card.
