Pan gold

Historical information

Gold pans were used to separate gold flakes or particles from alluvial deposits by washing and discarding sand, gravel and the like. This pan is very small and may have been produced for demonstration or display purposes.

Significance

Gold pans had widespread use wherever alluvial deposits were found an d water was available.
