Major WH 'Mac' Grant was the founding Officer Commanding of 1 Commando Company when it was first raised in Sydney in 1955.
Significance
1 and 2 Commando Companies, in Sydney and Melbourne, were the first of the post-WW2 Commando and Special Forces units raised in Australia since the disbanding of the WW2 Commando units. Major Grant served as a Commando in WW2.
