This is an early stereoview by George Rose. The women in the picture wears 'Rational Dress', which referes to a dress reform during the late Victorian era. THe reform was particulally realted to womens undergarments which were modified to be more comfortable and less restrictive.

This crochet chart was designed by the twentieth century crochet pattern designer, Mary Card, for the Victorian Centenary in 1934. It was published in the Australian Home Beautiful magazine on November 1934. The chart was published in four sections, with instructions for working it as a complete piece. Mary Card lived in Olinda and published books of her patterns and individual patterns in Australia, American and English magazines from 1909 until the 1930s.

This Brassiere belong to Mrs Zilpah Winifred Carroll (nee Parker) (1914 - 2001) and formed part of her trousseau. Zilpah, known as Win, married Harold Stewart (Bill) Carroll on Dec 21, 1938 at St MAry's Anglican Church on Glen Eira Rd, Caulfield. The Carrolls moved to Belgrave with their children in 1954 and lived there for over 40 years. Zilpah was supposed to be names "Zilpha" after a fictional heroine, however her father misspelled the name on her birth certificate.

The copy of this book is from the first publication and is rare. The book is set in the Yarra Ranges area with the characters based on local people. THe donors childhood pet dog "Chad" featured as a character in the book in chapter 12 p. 87. The daughter of the owner of Debbie, Patricia Reed (nee McKenzie) lives in South Belgrave. The story of Debbie mothering a kangaroo is based on a true story. The donor also advised that this remarkable dog also rescued and looked after a cat.

126 page hard covered children's fiction book titled "A Dog Called Debbie". Front cover depicts a black and white dog mothering a kangaroo, on a green background. The back cover features an excerpt from the forward by A. R. Chisholm, OBE Hon. D. Litt, Professor Emeritus and an illustration of the dog and Kangaroo playing.

He would have been 18 or 19 years old when he won the trophy at Lilydale ANA Day Carnival. Les' great-nephews, Stuart, Mark and Brett went to school in Lilydale. The family had not known that Les was a swimmer as well as a runner.

Figurine wears shorts, T-Shirt and wide hat. Carries what appears to be fruit on either end of a large stick that he carries on his back.

The first Lildale Show Girl competition was held in 1957 as part if the annual Lilydale Show. The Lilydale Shoe had stopped during the war years and reformed in 1954. The show was restarted by John Plant and Lloyd Gill ( owners of the Lilydale Express)

Came into donor's possession some time ago. When the band was due to sale for the UK , the treasurer absconded with all the monies and the tour was cancelled. Hence the unused letter. Subsequently, William Partington conducted bands Australia- wide. He played the euphonium excellently. Donor is the niece of William Partington

Letter from Dame Nellie Melba whilst in Sydney to Sir Daniel Godfrey, Bandmaster in England. This was to introduce the donor's uncle , William Partington, who was conductor of the Australian Imperial Band. Letter handwritten in black ink on cream peper. Address and telephone numbers printed at the top of the letter. Accompanying envelope has address handwritten on the front "Sir Daniel Godfrey Bournemouth" Address of sender is printed on the reverse and date handwritten in pencil "1924"

The dress was made by Miss Mary Ryan, a pupil at Lilydale Convent (now Mt Lilydale College) in 1902. It was worn to the Annual Empire Day Celebrations in Lilydale. Accompanying photo shows dress worn by Monica Ryan (no. 5089). The outfit also includes two hand made pockets for handkerchiefs and ties (nos. 735 & 736)

Empire Day Dress; Cream silk, cotton lined, embroidered with kangaroos and emu holding shield, with Southern Cross stars above rising sun emblem. Banner below reads 'Advance Australia', embriodered with silk and cotton thread; also gold metalic braiding. Bodice of dress decorated with embroidered Australian and British flags, wattle branches and eucalyptus leaves, cotton, leather leaves(?); centre of dress and sleeve cuffs decorated with red, blue and white ribbons. Cigerette case given by Dame Nellie Melba to John Charles Hughes. Mr Hughes was responsibile for maintaining and tuning her piano while on tour in the USA and Australia

John Charles Hughes was born in 1882 of Scotish- Irish ancestry . He was a graduate of the New England Conservatory od Boston where he studied classical music and piano. In 1926 John Charles Hughes' wife died of cancer leaving a daughter Dorothy (who is the wife of the donor). He was unable to continue his work after the death of his wife and after a bout of alcoholism disappeared and was never seen again.

Silver cigarette case with textured horizontal lines on outside surface and engraved monogram in centre. Hinged lid and clasp at one end. Interior has flat metal bar attached at one end to keep cigarettes in place, and 'From Nellie Melba 1913-1914' engraved across surface underneath bar.

Sent to his mother from Ron Fraser when he was serving in the South West Pacific during WWII. The resin for the brooch came from the windsheid off his areoplane.

Silver or silver-plated brooch, oblong with pin on back on a scroll shaped link attached. The bottom part is a silver double heart shape stuck onto a blue resin backing, also double heart shaped.

Belonged to the donors grest grest aunties ( there were four who lived together in Brighton, Sutherlands). One of them accompanied Melba on Cello. The program has since been passed down through the family.

Given to Nell (Helen) Mitchell, daughter of Charlie Mitchell, and her husband John Macpherson Smith as a wedding gift from he emloyees of Cave Hill, Lilydale 19 June 1935.

Historic significance related to Cave Hill Quarry, a major enterprise in Lilydale which has existed since the mid 1800s and was founded by David Mitchell, father of Dame Nellie Melba (opera singer). Cave Hill Quarry was a major employer in the area. The Museum also holds a humidifier made by the engineer at Cave Hill Quarry for Dame Nellie Melba as a gift. Significance also related to David Mitchell and Dame Nellie Melba and Mitchell family. Nell Mitchell was David Mitchell's grand-daughter and Nellie Melba's niece (Charlie Mitchell Melba's brother).

The skink was found in the garden on a property in Glenburn, Victoria, Australia. It was burnt during the February 2009 bushfires. Two specimens were found immediately after the bushfires however only one was locatable when donated.

This specimen has historic significance for its association with the February 2009 bushfires. It is a rare, complete example of the impact of the bushfires on a diverse range of fauna in and around Yarra Ranges. Although many animals were affected by the bushfires, very few specimens were collected and preserved. This specimen is reliably provenanced to a property in Glendale (just outside the boundaries of the Shire of Yarra Ranges) which was affected by the 2009 bushfires.
