Muriel Butler stole a black coat and a fox skin fur in Melbourne in January 1918. She was arrested when getting off the train in Ballarat. She was also wanted by the police for circulating valueless cheques. She had committed previous crimes of stealing and false pretences between 1914 and 1918, sometimes under the name of Agnes James.
