Historical information

This banner is one of the many awarded in the Western District of Victoria for competitive cycling races from 1932 onwards. The first championships were in 1932, won that year by Bob Scott of Cobden. Notably Russell Mockridge was one of the first to represent the Geelong West Cycling Club and compete in the Western District championships.

Significance

The Western District Road Racing Championships was significant in being a regional bike racing competition which the Geelong West Cycling Club took part in from 1932 onwards.

Physical description

Grey coloured satin cloth banner. The banner has a yellow fringe attached to the bottom of it and has yellow embossed inscriptions. There is a long yellow cord supported by a piece of dowel threaded through the top of the banner.
