Photo depicts Golf Hill, Shelford. Golf Hill was the estate of George Russell (1812-1888), the manager (from 1836) of the pastoral Clyde Company (a joint stock concern originally formed in Scotland). Russell's youngest daughter, Janet Biddlecombe (b. 1866) died in 1954 and part of the estate was subdivided and sold the following year.
