Peter Tierney built the SS Gippsland for the ,Dahlsen Company of Bairnsdale, at the Paynesville Slip to the design of Victor Gotch in 1908. Photo shows the shipwrights standing on the scaffold in front of the ship.
The S.S. Gippsland maintained an important trade and passenger link between Cunninghame and Bairnsdale before being sold in 1937 and leaving the Gippsland Lakes.
