Historical information

Several smaller transport and carters' unions preceded the Federated Carters and Drivers' Industrial Union of Australia. In 1906, smaller carters' unions organised and registered together as Federated Carters and Drivers' Industrial Union of Australia (FCDIUA). FCDIUA is a direct predecessor of the Transport Workers' Union.
