Historical information

The book was written after a joint mission in 1987 of the ACTU and the federal Government's Trade Development Commission to examine economic outcomes of European countries – e.g. Sweden and Austria – alongside their labour practices. One of the major recommendations of the report is that the union movement might strengthen its collective power by amalgamations to create fewer but larger unions. At the time the latter recommendation was embraced by the ACTU.

Significance

Significant to Australian and European economic and labour practices in the 1980s and union growth strategies.
