Gareth Evans was a federal parliamentarian from 1978 to 1999, serving as a Cabinet Minister in the Hawke and Keating governments. He was Minister for Foreign Affairs at the time the photograph was taken.

Betty Borchers worked as a legal secretary. She was active in the Ballarat ALP and is the wife of Norm Borchers.
