Decorative object - Embroided Postcards, c.1914-1918

Physical description

A selection of 15 embroided silk postcards from a soldier named James (Jim). Edges are embossed and a central piece of silk is fastened to each postcard carrying various inscriptions in brightly coloured thread. The designs are mostly floral or patriotic. The silk portion of some postcards contains a pocket in which miniature cards are contained.

Inscriptions & markings

Front: various including "To my dear mother", "A kiss from France", "To my dear sister" and "From your loving son"
Back: various including "My best love to you all at home/from Jim".

Postcards addressed to: "Mrs. J Corkish/no. 4 Marsden Terrace/Ramsey"
and: "Miss M Corkish" appears to be "C/O Healin (?) Bank/ Revival (?)/Manchester"
