This photograph depicts HMAT Nestor departing Melbourne 2nd October 1916 with Australian Troops
During WW1 HMAT Nestor mainly carried troops to England including the 6th reinforcements of the 57th 58th & 60th Battalions, 16th reinforcements of the 21st 22nd 23rd & 24th Battalions and 21st reinforcements of the 5th 6th 7th & 14th Battalions.

Significance

During World War I HMAT Nestor was a troopship for the Australian Expeditionary Force, and in World War II evacuated British children to Australia. She completed her final round voyage to Australia in 1950.
